Thankful Thursday

Another Thankful Thursday compliments of Another Chance Ranch!

Today I am thankful that my children are feeling better and are back to school, which means I don't have to take any more days off. I only work part time and I don't get paid for time off....so unexpected days off really hurt on payday!!

I am also thankful for the fact that I can take my dogs for a walk and come home in a better frame of mind than before I walked. I am also thankful I recognize this and opt for the walk rather than stewing in my own garbage mind!

Most of all, I am thankful that our family is able to have conversations like this during dinner:

We were talking about what we were going to give up for Lent this year. The conversation was part serious and part humorous. My husband said - "I am going to give up yelling at Mommy for Lent." My son looked at him and said - "But Daddy, you never yell at Mommy." He is right and I am ever so grateful to live in a home filled with peace and love.

Head on over to Julie's place for more gratitude!

What a sweet thing for him to say. My kids could say the same thing...but not if the roles were reversed!

isn't it wonderful when you children can recognize the love you have with your husband!?

it's like they are checking off a list of what they want their happily ever after to look like...i love that!

Terrific post. I am a survivor of the "yelling dad dinners". Your husband has given your children a gift beyond compare.

and nikki? Everyone needs a dog!

What a wonderful dinner conversation. Thanks for sharing! My 5 year old daugher said she is going to give up interrupting her Daddy and I when we are talking. I'm not sure if that is possible, but I'm willing to give it a chance!

My husband never yells at me either and it IS a blessing. But unfortunately we both yell at the kids sometimes. That would be a hard thing to give up, because it's never premeditated, you know? I'm not saying I think it's right. We are always working on it and getting better all the time. I just think if I gave it up for Lent, I'd fail, then feel doubly guilty, you know?

Alison, I am longing to be where you are... I am still covered up in sick kids, and just now I realized I myself am running a temp...again... sigh. Please send some get-well dust my way. xxoo

Don't you just love it when kids say things like that! It is such an affirmation of all we try to do and be. Kids don't lie - they tell it like it is.

Truly a Rainy Day Diamond. Tuck it away for when he is a teenager and mad 'cause you won't let him have the car keys. : )

And how wonderful that your son notices as well!!! These are wonderful things to be thankful for.

That is truly lovely. I believe children learn to love by watching the way we do. Your son should have love in abundance in his heart and life with role models like you and your husband.
Beautiful!

It's little moments like that (at the dinner table) that let me know we're doing okay. Kids always have a way of blurting out the truth, hey;).
