Fun Monday

Our wonderful hostess this week is Crown Princess....thank you oh so much for hosting!! Her assignment this week is the following:

Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great.

Before I share my songs with you I must let you know that I have been trying for the past 2 hours to include youtube videos in this post.....I can't do it....can someone please enlighten me as to what I am doing wrong??

So...back to Fun Monday....since I can't post the videos...I will link to them.

I thought and thought about this all week. I like all kinds of music and different songs touch me at different times in my life. The first song that came to my mind was Brick House by the Commodores. That was me in my younger years...a lifetime ago. My friends would play that song for me all the time and whenever I hear that song now I am reminded of my younger days.

I asked my husband what song reminded him of me and said You Make Me Feel Brand New by The Stylistics. That was the song we had our first dance to at our wedding. He chose the song and he sang it to me while we were dancing....it was beautiful. Every time I hear this song today I am reminded what a wonderfully romantic man I am married to!!

So then I asked my daughter what song reminded her of me. She told me When You Look Me In the Eyes by the Jonas Brothers. I had never heard so I listened to it and thought how sweet she was. She said whenever she hears this song, she thinks of me!!

So those are my songs....there are many more songs which touch me deeply but these songs will always hold a special place in my heart. Now head on over to the Crown Princess' place for more nostalgia.

If you open a video on YouTube, you have a grey box to the right of it. At the bottom of the box is a text field labeled 'Embed'.

Copy all of the text in the Embed text field.

Then, in your blog post, I am guessing you usually work in the Compose mode. (Look at the tabs at the top of where you write your post - one should say Edit HTML, the other should say Compose. Or something similar.)

Click the Edit HTML link. Then paste the embed code into the post.

That should do it for you.

Thanks for introducing me to some new music.

Well darn, I couldn't get two of the links to work. I think I'm going to visit you again because I really want to hear those songs. Love the Stylistics though, that song brought back a lot of memories.

Just so you know, you can paste the embed code into compose mode as well!

Lovely songs, that last one is a new one on me and it's great!

What a fun idea to ask your family.

My song was unable to be uploaded and beded, because they set it that way. Just a thought.
Good choices! I'm like you, not just one song describes me, but I just put one today that best fits right at this momment.
My momma has improved a lot. I'll be off and on over the next week. We just got to take one day at a time. Thank you for being there for me!

Great choices and how sweet of your daughter! ~Ann is right on the money about how to embed a video. The part that always messes me up is that when you click from html to compose, the video just shows up as a box with a red x. It doesn't show up as a video until you hit preview or actually post.

I think it's great that your hubby and daughter came up with songs for you! Happy Monday!

Yes, it's very nice that your family thought of you on those songs. Cool. I don't know what my hubby would say.

Hmmm...the last link isn't working for me. I'll have to look for it as I've never heard it before. I thought about including the song that Danny and I consider "our song" or at least the closest thing we have to it. Maybe I'll do that later this week with all the other songs I thought about but didn't include.

Like jenni I couldn't get the last link to work and that's the song I don't know. The other two are great though I enjoyed a trip down memory lane!

I checked out these songs the old fashioned way, I searched for them. I was familiar with the first two songs. The third was a first. All good songs.

It took me forever to figure out YouTube. Lately I've been saying that everything I know about computers I've learned from Blogging.

Great songs!

Brick House cracked me up! HA. And, I love the You Make Me Feel Brand New. How sweet that it's the song hubby sang you.

Hi Alison,

Thanks for checking in on me! We had to go to palm Springs for my daughter's cheer competition and I don't like to post that I am going out of town. We had lots of fun!

Brick House?!?!? Were you a disco queen, like I was back in the "day"?(tee-hee) I love the song that you chose for your wedding! That was one of my favorite songs. Whenever I hear it, I have to sing along. Now, I will also think of you. So sweet that your husband sang it to you while you danced. I love that! I will have to listen to the song that Cassie chose for you. She is such a doll.

I have some catching up to do, but I wanted to say hello, and let you know that I was thinking about you.

Big hugs Ms. Brick House!
Debbie

Alison,

What our kiddos say about us speaks volumes. Your daughter, in her song choice, told me at least two things about you.

1. You have raised a daughter with a good head on her shoulders for her to connect that song with a deep familial love rather than a shallow romantic sort of love.

2. You are an amazing mom to inspire such trust and confidence from your daughter. For her to be able to "look in your eyes and know that everything will be alright" is quite a tribute to the relationship you have worked hard to build with her.

You go, Girl! I wish my more of my students had mom's like you.

Kudos!

You are brave to ask your family... when ever I ask mine questions for these blog topics they just look at me funny, pat me on the head and back away.... :)

Those are cool songs, I like those too!

I feel your pain Alison re YouTube--not playing very well for me today of all days. Thankfully I'm familiar with a lot of songs mentioned.

Your should husband get big brownie points for choosing the "You Make Me Feel. . ." song. Good man!

Cool choices, can only imagine what Kaytabug would pick for me!!

Kaytabug said...

Aww sweet picks by your hubs and daughter. I had never heard the song she picked. I love Brick House. I almost chose She's got Legs by ZZ Top for a song that was associated with me in my younger days...not so much anymore.
Don't let my hubby mislead you...we have like 7 self made "soundtracks" that we each choose songs to put on them that make us think of the other...

I love how music attaches itself to our memories. I love how it is the backdrop of so many real, true, lived experiences for all of us. Your daughter thinks of you when she hears when you look me in the eyes? OMG, I need tissues. That is the most beautiful thing. You are such a rockin Mommy

Mamalang said...

I haven't really cared for that last song, but I'll have to give it a better listen now. How sweet your daughter must be though.

That is so cute that your daughter said a Jonas Brothers song!

Fun, Fun, Fun! I am with you in asking your family. I wish I had asked the kids and gotten their opinions. I like the songs you picked(that they picked)

Melanie said...

I like how your family picked songs for you. Great choices.

Yes, the funkiness of your choices lead me to believe you are not the shy introvert I had pictured you. Brick House - I loved that song. Funny - NLM

Thanks for your comment. You also have very nice choices !
You know it is really very easy to put a YouTube in your post if you follow Ann's instructions.

i listened to "You Make Me Feel Brand New." it's a perfect wedding first dance song!

i'll have to see if my daughter has the Jonas Brothers song ...

That certainly added some variety when you asked for other opinions.

Those were beautiful songs!

Now you have me humming Cuz I'm a Brickhouse. . .

I can't quite believe 12 year olds singing about how they've not been able to find a life partner! Still, I enjoyed listening to your three choices. I hadn't heard of any of them, so it was neat to hear some different music.

Great song posts. :)

For some reason, You Make Me Feel Brand New always makes me cry. I have no particular memory attached to it so I don't know why. I think it's just because it's a beautiful song.

alisonwonderland said...

i had to come back to tell you that i mentioned "When You Look Me in the Eyes" to my 12yo daughter this morning - and she promptly turned it on for me to listen to! :)
