Fun Monday

Our wonderful hostess this week is Mommy Wizdom....and here is her assignment:

The assignment: If you were ruler of the world for a day/week/month/year (your choice on the time), you would...

I would not want to be in charge of the world....but I would like to change a few things. I can't understand why a woman would pay thousands of dollars for a purse while another woman can't afford to make her family a decent meal. I would definitely change that. I also can't understand the fascination with celebrities, especially "celebrities" that don't have any talent. I would change that also.

In my perfect world our educational system would have unlimited funds and our politicians would earn just enough to support a modest lifestyle. Emphasis would be placed on educating our youth and cleaning up our planet. The defense budget would be small compared to the public school budget and the environmental protection budget.

Prison would be a place of punishment, not an easy lifestyle. Convicted child molesters would be castrated, without the benefit of anesthesia. A convicted murderer would get the death penalty immediately after being convicted. Death row inmates will not live on death row for 20 years.

Puppy mills will be non existent. Only reputable breeders will be allowed to stay in business. There would be stringent laws in place to keep the breed lines healthy. Emphasis will be placed on rescue and all pets will be neutered. Only breeding dogs will be allowed to remain intact. These rules also apply to cats.

Parents who are convicted on child abuse or neglect will be sterilized. They will have to undergo vigorous therapy and parenting classes. As part of their rehabilitation they will have to do volunteer work at a local children's hospital.

Children would be taught respect for themselves, for others, and for their environment. The entitlement society that we live in will disappear. Our youth will be taught the value of an honest day's work and an earned paycheck. They will learn to take responsibility for their actions and suffer consequences, and learn lessons. Manners and etiquette will be taught and valued.

That is my utopia....now head on over to Mommy Wizdom's place to visit other's utopias.

Oh my! While I agree with a lot of what you say there, I can't believe you would send someone to death row! My goodness, you know a lot of people get convicted of crimes they did not commit! As much as I would want a murderer to get his just rewards, I think one would have to prove it beyond doubt before killing them off. I agree about the child molester bit though. They deserve nothing less than your punishment there.

You have a lot of great points there! Perhaps a lot of these ideas will come to pass as more and more people wake up to whats going on in this world.

Whoa Dude ! So what do you REALLY think?
When I was in the classroom, and had to deal with abused children, one of which had had cigarettes snuffed out in his ears, I always thought if those doing the abusing were abused in the same way, they might think twice about hurting another child.

Thanks for participating... Our country has many ills indeed... I like your last one in particular about teaching our kids... Kids afterall are the future!

What if the woman with the purse saved for years to buy it and the woman who can't feed her family spent all the grocery money on the lottery? :)

Alison the not-benevolent ruler! Some of your views remind me of my dear friends Jane and Robert--they are the kindest and most giving people in the world, but are great believers in tough love--especially with their big family of adopted children. In their book every decision has a consequence. I agree with you 100%about the detrimental effects of our current society of entitlement. Does no favor to any of us.

I think we could have a lot of interesting debates on this list. I do agree with a lot of what you suggest; but I'm less certain about the death penalty because of the miscarriage of justice~ it would be awful to put an innocent person to death!

I'm gonna vote with you.... some might say its because I'm too scared not to... but that's "probably" not right!!!!

Aw man I'm totally for the entitlement thing. DRIVES ME INSANE! And sadly, I see parts of it creeping into my childrens philosophy. *sigh* I'm pruning and nipping it as best as I can, but that's a battle I feel I'm waging against the world that is daily feeding them the notion.

"I can't understand why a woman would pay thousands of dollars for a purse while another woman can't afford to make her family a decent meal.", is interesting observation. I am against the death penalty. However, I do not know all of the answers, but perhaps, dollars spent for prison should go towards rehabilitation.

I'm with you on so many of these but I really liked that you used the word respect for themselves in the last point regarding kids. I hadn't thought about it that way.

Oh yeah. Let's ban all the Paris Hilton's of the world!

I'm all for your world!!

With the exception of the small defense fund. That's the only thing I'm in disagreement with but everything else? Spot on Alison!

Especially about our "entitlement society".

Great post!
