Fun Monday

Our wonderful hostess this week is Rayne, who is on the crunchy side, and her assignment is the following:

Almost everyone I know keeps things that others would consider junk. Twist ties, used wrapping paper, etc. What thing or things do you hang on to, and why?

I cannot bear to throw away my children's school work. Cassie's shelf in her closet is filled with her old schoolwork, she has a box for each grade, including preschool. Michael's is getting just as bad, but it is not as organized as hers. Obviously this is not junk, but the reality of it is....it could be weeded through and some of it could be tossed....but I don't have the heart to do it yet. Maybe in a few years!!!

Now head on over to Rayne's crunchy place to see all the other hoarders....and don't forget to think of us on September 21st when we are walking a 5K for Breast Cancer!!!

not such a bad idea. But get some big plastic tubs -- and start filing it by year.

I try and keep one folder for each kid for each school year. I definitely have no problem getting rid of tests and busy work, and I'm better now that all three are in school. I save a lot less now! however, I love keeping their writing and artwork. It is hard to part with!

Oh no....don't even consider 'reality' and throw any of it away.

I have some of my kids stuff from 30+ years ago when they were in school. I tellya, it's just too priceless.

Have a terrific Fun Monday. If you haven't visited my post, do drop by sometime! I love to have company you know.

I wouldn't mind betting you will find it hard to part with anything even when they leave home~ I speak from experience. I've now got a huge container of things my grandchildren have produced.

They can look in them in 30 years, lol !

Must be a mother thing. My mother still has my old school work (I am 41 years old).

You're gonna need a shed out back pretty soon?? :)

I do the same thing. There are three big boxes in the basement filled with the girls' schoolwork. I can't bear to part with it. I keep telling myself that they will be pleased to see it when they are older as an excuse not to throw it away.

Pamela has a good idea. I only have ONE kid, and her stuff is piling up. I am more partial to her artwork, tho! Some of her stories are cute, too...

My parents don't have any of our schoolwork that I'm aware of, but when my parents divorced last December and my mom was moving out of their house, we found tons of artwork that she had saved from my brothers and I. I'm 40 and I bet I drew some of that stuff when I was 7.

I keep some of my kids' artwork, but the reality is that there is just too much. We hang on to the special stuff (the stuff with their handprints, or things that got special recognition) and moved on. It's hard to say though, I liked when we were moving my mom and I pulled all my high school art out from under her bed.

Ah … how I wish my mother had been like YOU! Perhaps I wouldn’t have so much difficulty getting rid of stuph today if I could have experienced the joy of ‘validation’ back then. Of course, it’s possible I’d still be a collector even if she had valued my ‘creations’ … Who really knows?
Hugs and blessings,

That seems like a good thing to save, to me.

Yes, I have started a collection of those too - although I know I have a lifetime left of collecting so I try to keep it down to a minimum! :-)

I wish I had been more picky over the years. I have every year in a small tote. The small totes then go into a larger tote. I did this for my three children from the first marriage, am now doing it for a step-son, did it for two other step-children for awhile (they have since moved out) and I have two little ones coming up. That's a lot of paper they probably won't care about!

I think that's a perfect thing to keep! I hope you have huge mounds! :)

I too keep all the kid's school work. I have a bin full of their stuff. Each one has a little memory.
