Fun Monday

Welcome to another editon of Fun Monday! Our wonderful host this week is AOJ and The Lurchers. Thank you so much for hosting!! You have chosen a wonderful assignment and here it is:

So continuing in the spirit of "being interested in people", I would like to know, or see, what's on, in or under your bedside table! So open those draws and bare your soul to us! Is there anything special there that has a story or a memory that you can tell us about? Books that you keep there to delve into from time to time? Trinkets that you don't know where else to put? Let's see!

Just to warn you...this may not be a pretty sight, especially if you have OCD tendencies and like your space to be nice and orderly! OK, don't say I didn't warn you......

As most of you know, I love to read!! I can never have enough books. It borders on an obsession, but I am OK with that. If I only have 1 or 2 books in my "to read" pile I panic, literally!! I read every night before I turn out the lights, even if it is only a page before my eyes close. All the books you see above are in my "to read" pile, er, rather piles. After I read them they get put on the bookshelf if I liked it or donated to the library if I didn't like it.

Here is a side view...pretty scary isn't it. To make matters worse, I have about $100 in Barnes and Noble gift cards burning a hole in my wallet just waiting for the right opportunity to get spent...I can't wait!!
Oh look...a little treasure. This bookmark was made by my son. I will often find little treasures like this on my book piles. Totally unexpected and random...I love them!!

Speaking of treasures. I found this treasure in my mailbox today. It was sent to me by my dear blogging friend Irene from Word Lovers Unite. It is her book of poems and I can't wait to delve into it tonight!!!

Now that you have seen my bedside table....have a look at everyone else's! Head on over to The Lurchers for the unabridged list of Fun Monday participants.

You are a girl after my own heart. I'm a reading teacher and a hard-core lover of the written word. I'm currently reading The Inheritance of Loss by Desai and The Patron Saint of Liars by Anne Patchet. Hey, are you on Goodreads? If not, I'll send you an invite. If you are, I have to friend ya. Let me know.
Peace!

Have you ever had a fiction avalanche RDH? The possibility certainly exists! Know what you mean about keeping several going at one time--so many books, so little time. . .

Sweet bookmark--one of my favorite travel mementos.

Love the bookmark. Priceless.
Are you reading all of those at once?

I am jealous of those who like to read. I used to at one time. You've inspired me, maybe I'll try to start again. Except blog reading takes up alot of time. Enjoy your books.

fun to see what you're reading.

i see some overlap betwen you and me--maeve binchy, amy tan, ann-marie macdonald.

but i confess i really, really, really hate nicholas sparks!

Swampy - I only read one at a time...my brain can't handle more than that.

Laurie - I have to be in the mood for Nicholas Sparks

Lucky the assignment wasn't "What do you think of books?" anyone that dedicated has gotta get a vote.

The bookmark is fabulous. I am trying to read your titles. In addtion to the poetry book, I see that you have an Amy Tan book and someething called Gold Country.

I love to read, too, and I have stacks of books they just aren't in my bedroom.

I'm an avid reader, too! What types of books do you enjoy most?

I love your lamp! Gosh! You do have the books dont ya! Love it!

I love books too. They are usually
on the floor next to my bed or downloaded from the digital library.

I used to "devore" books my whole life, but now since blogging is so new to me I have no time to read anymore that's why my sidebed table looks quite boring

Hi. My name is Joy and I have OCD tendencies. But I liked seeing your bedside anyway because all those books look amazing! :o)

I read the "Kite Runner" by the same author...is his 2nd book "Thousand Splendid Suns" just as good?

Happy Fun Monday. I hope you can find time to drop by for a visit today.

I'm a book nut too. I have boxes and boxes of them in my garage yet to be unpacked.

And I thought I had a lot of books on my table!!

I think you have more books than me! My huge pile is because the bookshelf is full.

I love your idea for the competition.

I see that you do love your books. Enjoy!

I'm currently reading Amy Tan's "Saving a Fish From Drowning" - really enjoy her work. But I also like Maeve Binchy - just finished one of her books shortly before Christmas (gave it to my older daughter) and my daughter and I both absolutely love Jodi Picoult! Only one book of hers I don't have yet -her first, I think it's "Songs of the Humpback Whale" if I'm not mistaken. My daughter just finished reading a Nicholas Sparks book that has to do with autism so you know, I HAVE to read that one. And I thought I was bad because I have eight books waiting to be read.

WOW, that is a ton of books!!! What a sweet treasure!

I am a voracious reader as well. Mine are all on bookshelves or still in the bookstore bags that I haven't gotten to yet.

I just gave away two boxes of books to a charity. I have a problem when it comes to buying books. They were taking over my house so I had to get rid of some. :-)

Kim said...

How do you choose a book without knocking them all over?

Beckie said...

Can I come to your house and read?! I love it!

A girl after my own heart! I love, love, love to read!

I see authors I love among your books. I am waiting for beccy to pass me 'A thousand splendid suns'. Your bookmark is lovely~I have many made both by my children, and my grandchildren. I think the fact they are made with love makes them so special.

Tiggerlane said...

Wow! You have a talent - if I don't keep with a book, or if I skip from book to book - I get lost in what the story was about. The thumbprint bookmark is SO NEAT!

Unknown said...

That's a huge pile of books!

Anonymous said...

Another book lover too! :) Even though I keep books by my bed I usually don't get too far with them. I'm known to fall asleep after reading a page or two with the book wide open in my hands...

Attie said...

ohh my!!! Have read all of them?

Anonymous said...

Hi, This is Barnes and Noble calling. You have won a prize for the tallest pile of books on one night stand.

Hi again....

And to answer your question about "Rhett Butler's People"....yes, it's about the one and only Rhett of "Gone With the Wind"---before he fell in love with Scarlet. It begins with a duel [I'll tell you that much.] I think it's pretty good. There are quite a few characters to learn about, but also there are some quite familiar. So, so far it's okay.

Carrie @carrieloves said...

Love the book mark, very sweet. I had to move my "to read" stack to the living room so there would be room for me in the bedroom!

Your bookmark is too precious. I love when my kids make me something, it is very special.

Retrohipster said...

That is quite an extensive collection.

Robinella said...

That's a lot of books on that table. Some good titles too. :-)

love your pile of reading material!

Debra said...

Alison,

You and I have so many things in common! I will have to take a picture of my night stand so we can compare titles! Right now I am reading Ken Follett's, The Pillars of the Earth, and a bloggers book called Sick Girl Speaks. Her name is Tiffany Christensen. I read Irene's book a couple of days ago, but I will be going back to it again, and again. She is such a lovely person, isn't she?!?!?

It was fun seeing your night stand. If I remember, I will post a photo of mine, in the next couple of days.

Hugs,
Deb

Way too many books for me. I would get tired just reading the titles :-)

If you enjoy them, they aren't an obsession.

Linda said...

There is certainly no shortage of bookage in the Fun Mondayers nightstands. You have to take the prize for the most I think though! Great post!

I read Amy Tan's Hundred Secret Senses too. Fantastic book. I love your bedside table.

I like you girl, i heart my reading and on a good week am reading about 3/4 diffrent novels. I have one in just about every room in the house

Karina said...

Wow, that is a WHOLE LOT of books! ;-) I have tons of books too, but they are all in my office...I don't read before bed because then I'd never get to sleep...I'd stay up all night reading, so I've banned books from my bedroom. haha
