Fun Monday

Our wonderful hostess this week is Ari who is going Beyond Her Slab with this assignment:

It's time for show and tell. What does your kitchen counter look like right now? (And no fair cleaning just for the picture!) Do you have any favorite or unusual items on your counter?

A typical kitchen will have a potted plant or possibly a flower like this orchid...

..and a bowl of fruit and possibly a banana stand....

...it is quite possible to have some trivets lovingly made by the children who reside in the house..

...maybe some artwork on the wall that gives a glimpse into the personality of the person who spends a lot of time in the kitchen.

Of course my kitchen has all of the above. I am very fortunate though. As you know I live with a 9 year old boy and he LOVES to play on the kitchen counter. I regularly find other interesting items on the counter. Usually these items are legos (either in pieces or formed into an interesting creation), books, cars, trains, etc. This is what I found on the counter today.

A car that crashed and rolled and landed upside down. I am not sure what was the cause of the accident, and I didn't ask.

A train complete with its tender.

R2D2 laying down, I hope he is just taking a nap and is not passed out, you just never know with these Star Trek characters. The yellow/green puff toy is an animal he made in art class. I am sure it has a name but I have forgotten it.

A silver truck that has mysteriously come apart. It may have been involved in the crash with the white car, I am not sure, sometimes it is better to not ask any questions.

The Awesome Book of Sharks! What household is complete without this book?

Now I know you all know what this is! What? You don't know? I am surprised at you! It is a wigwam, of course. This is a project for school. Michael made the framework out of pipe cleaners and paper maiche'd the covering. He then painted it brown.

And last, but definitely not least....what kitchen is complete without an ongoing science experiment. This container is growing triopes, a prehistoric creature that resembles a shrimp.

That concludes your tour of my kitchen...thanks for visiting. To tour more kitchens, feel free to visit all the other Fun Monday participants.

Very nice! Our kitchen counter was much the same except I happened to clear it of on Friday so it was empty today! I suppose I could have taken a picture of the groceries when I bought them in but that would have been scary!

At least it's never boring. Wonderful post, Alison.

Love your stories for everything left on the counter. I'm sure that your son had a story in mind for every scene. Don't you just wish your mind was half as active as a child's? I do.

I have to disappoint you, I have no flowers in my kitchen and as there are no kids anymore either, I have cats decorating the counter, lol ! It's nice to see all kind of kitchens this morning !

How wonderful!! It shows that it's a kitchen that is being lived in! I'm not sure about the shrimps though? LOL!

You have a wonderfully fun kitchen counter... loved the commentary! I am afraid I have none of that on my counters... but then I have no kids, unless you consider a 54 year old man a kid!

Nice and interesting stories that took place on your counter tops. I love the plaque about 100 years from now. That is so true.

I do miss the "treasures" left around by a housefull of little boys! The ver special rocks, the hundreds of sticks (one of them LOVED big sticks), the toys (transformers, teenage mutant ninja turtles and hot wheels) - everybody grew up and and now and then in a drawer or in the back of a closet I find a long forgotten treasure :) I look forward to grandchildren in a few years and starting all over again - maybe with a few girl treasures this time around :D - girls like rocks and sticks too, I think!

Alison your kitchen reminds me of Beccy's. She always has lots of the children's art and projects around. Aren't work surfaces just perfect for imaginative play.

My son grew triopes a couple of years ago. Boy do they stink! I have a feeling we weren't doing something right...

I love your countertops! So unusual in color.

I love the "One Hundred Years From Now..."
Also, the science experiment. We have those all the time and don't even know what we're growing.
