Our wonderful Hostess this week is Southern Doll and this is her assignment:
What have you done in your life that was worth doing? I want to know the moments in your life that you hope will be the ones to pass through your mind when your time comes. I hope that doesn't sound too morbid. This doesn't necessarily have to be items you have checked off your Bucket List, it can be those small moments that made you smile, or the time you got that huge promotion you deserved, or the first time your baby smiled at you out of pure joy. I want to know all the moments, big and small, that make life sweet! If you don't already have a running list of these in your mind, you should! These moments help you remember how much your life is worth living, and we all deserve to enjoy it.
I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. Mistakes are made to become lessons and regrets are a waste of energy. Everything that has happened in my life has made me the person I am today. That being said...here a few of my highlights:
* being adopted into my wonderful family, warts and all!!
* becoming friends with my bestest buddy "Putt" when we were 10 years old.
* graduating from college
* telling my friend to have her boyfriend's brother call me in 10 minutes and then running home to take the phone call....
* marrying this wonderful man 5 years after that phone call
* going through our infertility in order to become parents to the two wonderful children we adopted
* paying the balance of the lady's grocery bill when she was scrounging in her purse for loose change while her toddler watched her
* having my daughter see me do this
* smiling at store clerks and thanking them for helping me
* having my children watch me do this and seeing them do the same thing
Life is what you make it. You get back what you give. Smile at strangers, you will get a smile back and if you don't, you will still feel good.
Enjoy your Monday and don't forget to visit Southern Doll for everyone else's lists.

You are an inspiration. I love "and have my child see it"
You have the same philosophy of life I have ! and so far you had a good life.
Oh so good. Everything. Especially the paying the grocery bill and your child watching. And smiling at clerks and making them feel good if possible. I try to do that also. What an inspiration.
Delightful! One thing I love about my (NEW) town is that everyone smiles and speaks to strangers! As a result, there aren't many strangers.
It's All Good! Very nice FM Alison!! And thank you very much for your kind comments on my blog....I am adoring my little girl!! I didn't play FM this week, but have a good one!
the more i read about your the more i love...good stuff all of it!!
This brought tears to my eyes, literally. I love the fact that your children watching you - doing the good deeds..........it melts my heart.
My Fun Monday is posted, I sure hope you can drop by and give it a read. Have a super-duper day.
You are such a good and kind person and that shines through in all your posts, not just this one!
These are all great things to remember. Children learning from parent's good examples has to be one of the best.
Just like children learn to hate and be mean by watching their adults, they also learn love and compassion. Thanks for picking the second set of values.
I think that it might be one of the hardest lessons to learn sometimes, doing something for someone else and not expecting anything in return!
Great list!
Great list. I love the fact that you ordered your now husband to give you a call.
Truly, it IS the small moments in life that matter most. Love your list! xxoo
Wonderful list!!! Your last 3 sentences is exactly how I feel, I loose sight of that from time to time! Thanks for the reminder!
Alison,
You always post such lovely things. Even though I have never met you I can see you are an amazing person and mom. I'm so glad I get to glimpse into your life through your blog. thank you!
Great list. Always lovely coming here.
modeling politeness and caring. awesome. and seeing it go on. double awesome. i hope i can do the same thing one day.
'Life is what you make it. You get back what you give. Smile at strangers, you will get a smile back and if you don't, you will still feel good.' - the best I have read all day!
What a great list. And I love that you're teaching your kids to be as kind as you are.
=)
You sound like a girl after my own heart:-)
What a wonderful list … and I fully agree with your ‘closing’ … ‘life IS what you make it’ and we DO get back what we give ;--)
I hope you’re having a marvelous Monday!
Hugs and blessings,
your post touched me, very nice.
I'm also a believer that everything happens for a reason. and I love the: Mistakes are made to become lessons and regrets are a waste of energy. I'm going to remember that one.
I love your practice of random acts of kindness for strangers Alison. And what a great example of grace in action to share with your children. Glad the phone call worked out the way you hoped!
wonderful post. you did good, hon!
Very heart warming! I agree with your thinking. Beautiful!
I love this list. Lovely post.
Very, very cool stuff here!
Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the SBTVD, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://sbtvd.blogspot.com. A hug.
My daughter remembers very well when a beggar approached me and my daughter after we stopped at fast food.
I gave him my food -- and it really impressed her. Although he wanted cash
It's wonderful when they remember the good things. There are so many times I've done the wrong thing
I don't mean to ignore your entire list, they're all great, but the smiling at store clerks and the kids mimicking you makes me think of my step-daughter's last visit. She was so absolutely horrid to a lady scooping ice cream for us, I guess she got that from her mom. :( That girl has a great ego and tough mouth. She's been fired from two jobs already and we swear it's because of her mouth. Just burns my butt, still.
what a great list! I love it and it is an inspiration to me as well. Great job.
