Your Constitutional Right

I voted...did you? Did you get your "I voted" sticker? If you don't vote, you don't get "bitching privileges".

My children are very attuned to the election this year. I don't remember being that way at their age. I don't know if I was ignorant or selfish, or maybe a combination of both. Cassie and I have had some very interesting discussions regarding some of the Propositions. She has her opinions and they are strong and she can back them up. I am very proud of her. I hope she joins the debate team in high school.

Even Michael has his opinions this year. On the way to school this morning he said that if he could vote he would vote for McCain. Cassie gasped in the seat next to me and said, "Did you hear what he said Mommy?" I nodded my head, with a big smile on my face. "But", she said, "the rest of family is voting for Obama." She was flabbergasted and was about to give him a piece of her mind when I said to her, "That is the beauty of our society. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and allowed to vote for whomever they want." She got that and Michael was very proud of himself for being so independent.

Don't forget to vote today for whomever you want....exercise your right.

Yep, I agree with your son, although I liked your Daughter's initial response much better. LOL -Nothing like letting folks know where ya stand, huh? But voting -been there, done that about 1 p.m. today EST. And as to elections in general and memory, the earliest one I remember was the one in 1952 -Eisenhower vs Stevenson -and I remember my uncle (I lived with him and my aunt that year) being all gung-ho too for Adlai Stevenson!

My two oldest kids (9 and 6) are gung ho about this election, too. Unfortunately they are not very educated on the stances of the politician's running. Their dad and I are probably voting opposite of each other, so I'm really trying to temper their enthusiasm with fairness and the fact that whoever is elected president deserves our respect.

I am very surprised how involved the kids are in today's election. I do not have any children living at home right now, but I think it's great they are involved so young. There was a young boy ahead of me in line with his father...he was probably nine years old. I believe his Dad was just showing him what it is all about. I voted!

Yup … I voted EARLY on October 28th … and I’m watching election results as I type, even though the polls are still open in California until 8pm. I think it's wonderful to engage your kids in conversation about the election process and listen to their point of view too ;--)
Hugs and blessings,

Well said My dear! I agree, everyone should have a choice! I was actually amazed to see on TV so many people saying they would not vote! My vote goes to Obama too! I have liked him from the start, however, my vote does not count! I hope he wins!

Hey remember the Mayan Daysigns I sent you to look at? Obama was born under exactly the same Tone/Daysign/Trechna and Nightlord as the day your country declared independence! That has got to be a good sign! On a funnier note, so was Cameragirl! (Her in charge might give me cause for concern!) Haha! Well at least she is sweet! Its all about Yin/Yang!

I agree! about the youth of today. I was a mccain voter. But, it wasn't clear cut. Obama is our president so no more name calling like ohdumma. I support him. I think he reminds me in many ways of JFK. He is very charasimatic. He knew how to strategize and where to campaign. He is a president for the people. I think he does care and I am watching where this will take him. He will never truly know what he has stepped into, until he spends his first night in the white house!

frivolous point. I cant wait to see what china our first lady picks out and how she will decorate!

I'm glad your children are already active in their opinions! Yeah to the future.

I voted!! Hooray!!! I always tell my kids they can have any opinion they want as long as it's an informed opinion. I don't want them parroting back whatever they hear everyone else say. I am encouraging my daughter to join the debate team too. They need to know there are pros and cons to both sides.

BTW, thank you for my award; when are you gonna tell me how to put it on my blog???

I'm with Michael and I'm sad and worried but I hope all will go well. :) Our family was mixed and I'm proud that all but one of our kids voted, even if some of them did not vote for the same person we did at least they put in their say. :) My daughter is extremely upset, worried about her cousin in the service, apparently the service people are not happy.

Where are you?

You said this all perfectly! And I love how you handled the fact that your son said he'd vote for someone other than the family! You are EXACTLY right. That's why we live here! I voted! Oh and here here to your comment on "if you don't vote, you don't get bitching priveledges!"

EXACTLY!
