Fun Monday

Our wonderful hostess with the mostess this week is Robin, the Pensieve One. Her assignment is the following:

Regardless of what motivated me to choose this for a theme, next week please share words that inspire and motivate you--brief or bloviatory, s
illy or serious, from great world leaders to last night's Comedy Central...from a Hallmark greeting card to your favorite book. Choose one, choose many; let the quotes stand on their own or tell where you first read or heard them and how they affected you. There's a lot of leeway with how this topic can be handled.

It would be very difficult to choose just one quote. I love so many. So, I am going to choose two that I heard this past week that had me pondering life. This first one was sent to my via email from my son's birth grandmother:

One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important.
Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)

I just love that...kind of keeps you humble.

This next one I heard in song this week and it really struck home for me. The song is called "Stronger Woman" and it is by Jewel.

"Well from now on I'm gonna be

The kind of woman I'd want my daughter to be"

Here is the video if you would like to watch it:

Now head on over to Robin's place for more inspiration. Have a wonderful Monday!

purrrrrrrrrrfect (yes purr) quote.
That should be etched on all of our bathroom mirrors. Just to remind us what is not important each day.

thanks for the Jewel song.

Your first quote is one we could all use to keep things in perspecitive in our worklife. I could have taken that to heart, especially in the year before I retired.

Wow. So simple, yet it really hits you! A good quote to live up to.

(BTW, I must be really out of it...when did Jewel go country???)

Oh...wow. The second quote really go to me! To be the woman I would like my daughter to be? I'm afraid she is already way beyond me...

....I just wanted to say....I have just read your first adoption journey from beginning to end. I am sitting here now with a very soggy keyboard. Truly inspirational and very moving. Thank you for sharing this x

The quote by Jewel is probably the smartest quote a mother can follow.
Love it. I’m going to buy that CD. Now!... see what you did? You making me spend money. He! He!

Russell's quote is a great reminder about perspective and taking yourself in stride.

And Jewel's lyric? Shazaam! Love it! I'm sitting here across the room from my daughter and thinking, "How can I make sure this happens?" ya know?

Thanks, Alison!

I like the first one -- reminds me a line from a TV show I watched this weekend: "I think the fact that I question if I am sane likely means that I am."

I need to add Bertrand Russell to my reading list. I keep coming across great quotes by him, but I know next to nothing about him.

That is a great song with a great quote. Sometimes we don't consider the impact we have. A great quote by Bertand Russell also.

Thats a lovely song, and definetly a quote to live by

Thanks for your visit to my first Fun Monday on Quotes at Small Reflections and leaving the link back here. I enjoyed the Bertrand Russell quote and the Jewel song … then found myself clicking around your blog a bit (something I love to do when participating in these ‘memes’) … enjoyed learning a bit more about you and your family from your ‘alphabetical list’ for last week’s Fun Monday.

After reading your Friday Funny History I wanted to extend my condolences on the loss of your friend … and applaud you on your decision to continue this Friday Funny ‘tradition’ in her memory. I’m sure this will be the first of many visits to your blog.
Hugs and blessings,

Loved both of those quotes. The one from Jewel though really makes me think about what my daughter sees me doing.

Alison,

Thanks, dear heart, I really needed that! I am working very hard on redefining myself and what it is that I need out of this crazy journey called life. It's a definite process, but being the mother of daughters I now realize the importance of modeling strength. I have given them so much, now I need to give them time to practice trusting their own strengths.

I have missed you, friend.

Hugs and love,
Deb
