Our New Slinky Pet

This beautiful creature is our newest pet. His name is Sammie and he is a corn snake. He is just a baby and will grow to be about 4 feet long, he is currently about a foot long. His markings are gorgeous and the kids are smitten with him.

Last night we were awoken at 3 am by a loud screeching noise. Our cat brought a live mouse in the house and he decided that our bedroom would be an excellent room to play with the mouse. We didn't think that was such a great idea. I jumped out of bed and opened our door to the backyard and the cat was worried we would take his pet away from him. He grabbed his toy and ran outside. Boy, were we relieved. There is nothing worse than chasing/capturing a live mouse in the middle of the night. We have had to do that many times.

I will post the next installment of our Adoption Journey on Tuesday...the excitement is just beginning...stay tuned.

See you tomorrow for Fun Monday....

I'm the only one in my family that likes snakes, so I could never have one as a pet. We had everything else. Mice, rabbits, all kinds of birds and dogs, a tortise. No cats, I'm deathly allergic. I hope you post snake photos, as he grows. (I can have a pet snake vicariously.)

You can have all the snakes you want as pets -just don't bring them anywhere near to me! I can handle mice much better. But my real preference is to cats and dogs although we don't currently have a dog. I keep hoping one of these days I'll convince Mandy the time is right for us to be a dog owner family again. So for now, we have Jorge, the newest cat and Nina, the cat we got last spring but who was sent to live with my son to help him and his roomie with their mice problems but she's currently visiting here again for a few days.

I had a garter snake when I was a kid. His name was Spot and he guaranteed that my mother didn't come into my room for the entire year that I had him. :)

What does Sammie eat? Maybe the cat thought he looked hungry. :)

All I can say is rather you than me! My grand daughter wants a rat for her birthday and I shuddered at that thought~ I'll stick with the tortoises!

Mmmm thats very cute! But you can keep it! For some reason, I am a little scared of snakes. I even made myself hold a rather large python to face it. I still don't like them, I do however, love lizards.

Ew, I just can't do snakes. My son had a big whaterever they are, python? something for a while. Iwarned him that if I stumbled across it loose in the house he would no longer have a pet. It was cool watching him eat though.

If your snake was bigger, you could have just stolen the cat's treat for him!

Beautiful baby.
