Fun Monday

Our wonderful hostess this week is Nikki. Her assignment is the following:

1.) I don't know about you, but my family is great at creating strange words that only we know the meaning. Some were created when the kids were first learning to talk, others came about when our tongues were twisted and the word came out funny. Either way, the words stuck and we still use them in our daily conversations. What created words does your family use?! Please share the story behind the word if you remember. If you don't have a made up word then tell us about the unspoken way you communicate with someone. Do you and your significant other have a look that means "This party is boring, lets split" or do you have a look that your kids know means their butt is in serious trouble? Please share!! And a picture of the look would be very entertaining!
OR/AND
2.) In honor of St. Paddy's Day, please share your worst green beer story!

I don't have any green beer stories...so I will stick to the first one.

My favorite word we had was when my son was just starting to talk. Apparently he could not say Michael so he called himself GoGo. I have no idea how he got GoGo out of Michael...but he did and that is what everyone who was close to us called him for many years. Sadly, I don't remember how or when it stopped, but it did.

Another one from my son....he has always called skinny dipping - skippy dipping!! When he was younger he would always ask to go skippy dipping in our pool!!! Now everyone calls it skippy dipping!!

Head on over to Nikki's to see all the other Fun Monday participants!

This post reminded me of my pop-pop. When I was really small, we used to play this game. He would say a word, I would make up the definition. He used to take such delight in the things I came up with. I credit him for making me a lover of the english language, unafraid to experiment with words. He passed some years ago, wish my kids could have know him.

Well, I passed the "skinny" part so many years ago. I think I'll adopt the "skippy" method, too. ha.

My son used to say "Beskquisk" for breakfast. He did that until about 2 years ago. We were just talking about it yesterday, and about how much I miss the "cuteness" of it all. They grow up too quick. :(

Skippy dipping is a good word especially if the water is a bit cool!!!

I love skippy dipping.

[ps I think I got the text aligned and ready for you to re-read if you'd like to come back and read the story...it worked fine in Firefox but when I read you saw text cut off I went into Internet Explorer and yep...cut off. Hope it's readable now. Thanks for the heads up on that.]

Excellent. I knew a Jeremy once who called himself Boomie. I think it was rather embarrassing for him when I ran into him a few years ago (he's 10 years younger then me - the sibling of a friend) and exclaimed "Boomie!" in front of his friends.

That is very cute! I used to say up side up which has passed into family terminology.

Skippy Dipping is cute - and I can totally see how he would come up with that - especially watching people "skip" rocks across the water!!

Hmmm...I'll have to try skippy-dipping! All I seem to do now is chunky dunking...

I'm sure for many people skinny dipping often becomes skippy dipping.

Thanks for playing!

Skippy dipping is much more fitting a word for it!

GoGo... love it. I used to call my son Toopy Loopy. I have no idea why - and I don't remember when it stopped. I wonder why we don't remember stuff like that?

Skippy dipping makes it seem innocent for some reason.

And GoGo is a great name!

LOL skippy dipping!! too cute!
I was sad to stop hearing my younger 2 mispronounce my oldest sons name. My middle guy used to say Chewbacabacabacabaca.

How cute! My dipping isn't so skinny anymore either so skippy would be good.

My sone was speach delayed and his best friend was a little girl named Acelin he called her din din for years! She called her pacifier a ya ya and most everyone who knew here ended up calling it the same thing.

My daughter called my Michael Bacon when she was little. I have no clue, like your GoGo. :)

Here I thought Skippy dipping would involve Peanutbutter.

I will have to keep an eye on you blog to read the rest of your second adoption journey I'm hooked.

awww I love this!!! We have all kinds of strange words in our house. My daughter called her forehead her cone head for years!! My sister was just telling me the other day that her daughter would say "Mommy, I have a bever" instead of "I have a fever" hehe. Kids are sooo cute! I am so glad I found your blog. I am new to all of this but I created a blog called "I overcooked My Family", I would really love to hear from you. Hope you have a great day!
