Weekend Recap

My favorite time of the year is right now. I love the cool mornings and evenings, the crispness in the air and the colors. The oranges, the reds, the yellows....I love the fall colors. We don't see too much fall foliage here in California, but I appreciate every hue I see. Our annual pumpkin patch pictures are some of my favorites of the year. We took our annual trek to the pumpkin patch yesterday and we had an added bonus....our nephews came with us.

We don't see our nephews very often because of our family dynamics. It is very hard on our children who miss their cousins tremendously. My brother and his wife have pulled away from the family due to perceived and/or real transgressions...it is a long story for another day. Today we will focus on the positive! My parents arranged to have the boys for the weekend in order to spend some time with us. It was wonderful and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

As you can see, it was a beautiful day to enjoy the pumpkin patch and each other. I miss those boys, maybe in time the divides will be conquered. Until then I will enjoy them whenever I see them, and my children will do the same.

Yesterday was a busy day. I also took my girl scout trip on a field trip to Guide Dogs for the Blind. It was a wonderful experience..how can you not love those sweet puppies who grow up to be such wonderful companions and workers for their people. It is a truly a beautiful relationship.

I had to take a picture of this sign. It was posted above a small grassy area. In case you were wondering how a blind person would read this sign....they have hundreds of volunteers who walk the numerous dogs regularly...the sign is for them. A working guide dog is trained to relieve themselves on command at certain times of the day. That is one of the many interesting facts I learned yesterday. I also learned that they have volunteers who are puppy raisers and breeder keepers. I think we will sign up for that, not now, but definitely later.

I have a very busy week coming up....don't forget to sign up for my give away...

Family rifts are so annoying and I agree its not fair on the kids. As for the guide dogs I could not do it! You have them as puppies and have to train them but not get attached to them. Too Hard.

There are probably very few families that don't have rifts at some time or another. And I agree, it's so difficult for the kids. So glad you had the opportunity to enjoy them.
Those are some amazing orange watermelons you photographed.

Great sign ! I admire those who can train those puppies, then give them up.

What program do you use to put those blue borders on your pics?

Love the pic below.

I'm so sorry your family has a rift right now. I'm so glad you were able to spend time with the kids, though.

I didn't know guide dogs relieved themselves at specific times. So amazing.

In Junior high I did a history project on one of the first guide dogs ever. Buddy was his name I think. I can't remember much about it anymore!

I've always thought it would be fun to raise a puppy for them. :) But I never knew they were trained on when to p-p. Interesting.

My Niece Jenai had to give her puppy back this weekend after raising it for a year...it was really sad... don't know if I could do it! I know it's for a GREAT reason but I'd get too attached :(

I hate when family rifts drive cousins apart. Maybe the adults can agree to not let their issues become their children's issues.

that sign. Oh my goodness. I don't think I could give up my puppy even if I knew I was raising it for a good cause.

I love this time of the year, too! It's the best, hands down. I need to remember to slow down and cherish it!

Best time of the year! Our 29th anniversary was the 26th of October :)

Most years we go to the mountains for our anniversary. The beautiful leaves and crisp air can't be beat.

The kids look wonderful out in all that fresh air and sunshine :) Michael looks like something tickled him and Cassie's hair is darling!

It is my favorite time of the year too! Wish it would last longer! I hear you on the whole family dynamic thing. Glad to see that you had such a nice trip. I wasn't aware that guide dogs are trained to relieve themselves at certain times either! Very interesting field trip!!
